Assalam 'ALaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
These are the days in which a lot of people among us makes so much of excuses on things saying "Oh Come-on! You see, I cannot do that because this is Ramadan! I just cannot."
Starting from individuals to presidents, this is a common excuse. Why???
They say that fasting is making them tired. Fasting loses a lot of energy. Fasting prevents them being active. Oh boy! Really?
Let us make a quick analysing how the best people of this Ummah has spent their lives in Ramadan. Yes the Salaf al-Saliheen.
When Ramadan comes, the great Sahaba (radiyallahu 'anhum) of the Messenger (pbuh) becomes so active in their all daily lives, plus in other affairs too. Keep in mind that the climate, the temperature variation in the cities of Makka and Madina and their surroundings.
Ramadan has been the month which gave the MOST important victories to the Islamic Ummah.
Battle of Badr - the first and most important battle in the Islamic History - has been done in the month of Ramadan. It was on a Friday, on 17th of the blessed month. The patience and courage shown by the Sahaba is truly full of lessons for the Muslim Youths. They never say, "Oh no! We are fasting, so how can we fight in such a war, in this hot climate, in dust, while fasting?" Rather, they were so keen to participate in defending the Ummah. Muslims had around 300 men, 2 horse and 100 camels while the idolaters had much more in number of all these things. Yet, Allah gave victory to Muslims why? Because of their sincerity and Taqwa. Nothing else. Allah says, “And Allah already helped you in Badr when you were a weak little force. So fear Allah and be grateful to him.” [Al-Imran, 3:123]
Battle of Ditch (Ahzaab/Khandaq) - one of the hardest earth works done by Muslims to protect the very infant Islamic Ummah at that time. Muslims dig the hard and tough land around Madina and made a trench, to prevent Kuffar from entering the City. They were fasting, the weather was extremely hot, lack of cool breeze. Even some of the Sahaba tied rocks on their stomachs due to the severe hunger and thirst. However, not a single one said, "I cannot do this! This is too hard for me in this Ramadan." Subuhaanallah!
Also there are many such examples we can see from the History of Islam which includes:
Battle of Tabuk - took place in 630 AD.
Conquest of Makkah - took place on 10th Ramadan of 8 AH.
Not only at the times of Sahaba, even at later times the Muslims found as much more active with the spiritual power they get in Ramadan. My dear brother/sister who read this, these are just human beings same as us.
Invation of Spain (Andalus) - took place in the month of Ramadan in 710 AD.
Also many many more like Battle of Ascalon, Battle of Hattin etc etc.
All those were took place in the month of Ramadan while the Muslims were fasting and Kuffar were with full energy as how they mean it. Brothers and sisters! The reason why I mentioned just about the wars and battles are because this is one of the MOST difficult thing a person will ever have to do while fasting.
Therefore, let us learn a lesson from it, and let us not get lazy when the Ramadan arrives. Make aim not to reply mom when she asks us to help her in watering the plants, "O Mommy! I can't because I am fasting."
Wassalam 'Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
